So mistakenly you dropped your smartphone into a bucket of water. Don't panic! If you act quickly you can save your smartphone from becoming broken. In this article, we'll show you how you can fix or at least make an effort to save your Android smartphone that has just dropped in water.
First of all, bring the phone out of the water quickly. The more it stays there, the more water will go through the openings in your phone. Once you've brought it out of the water, there are some important things you need to do immediately to save the phone, and also some other things you must avoid doing in order to prevent the water from damaging the phone.
What You Must Not Do
- Do not turn the phone on.
- Do not press any phone buttons or keys.
- Do not try to shake the phone.
- Do not take the phone apart or you'll lose your warranty only do it if you need to and have prior experience.
- Do not try to blow out the water. This could send water into several internal parts of your phone that it hadn't already reached thus causing more damage to your phone. See 7 Things To Consider When Buying A Phone
10 Things To Do To Save Your Phone
1. Turn off the phone if it isn’t off already and hold it uprightly.
2. Remove any protective casing of the phone, and remove your SIM card and microSD card from their slots.
3. Open the back of the phone and remove your battery, SIM card(s) and microSD card though this isn't possible with all phone models.
4. Use a cloth to clean your phone dry. Avoid spreading the water around, because that could push it into other phone's openings. Just soak up as much of the water as possible.
5. Put the phone in a bag full of uncooked rice (sounds funny right). Actually, rice is really great for absorbing liquid and it is a common method for drying Android smartphones and tablets.
6. Allow your phone to dry for a day or two. Do not be tempted (don't yield to the temptation if you're tempted) to switch it on to see if it will still work. You can be using an old phone (borrow if necessary) for the meantime.
7. After the passage of few days, you can bring out the phone from the bag of rice, then insert your battery into the phone and switch it on.
8. If the phone doesn't switch on, try and charge it. If it doesn't charge, the battery might be damaged. You can buy another battery, or you may consider taking your phone to be repaired by a professional.
9. If your phone turned on and is running the way it should, you have to still keep an eye on it for the next few days, this is to see if you will notice anything that is out of the ordinary. Play music to check your smartphone speakers and make sure the touch screen is still working the way it should.
10. In the future, avoid taking your phone with you when you are going to the pool or anywhere you know there will be a possibility of it dropping into water.
