Gboard is a keyboard app developed for iPhone and Android by Google. It was first released on iOS in May 2016, followed by a release on Android in December 2016, debuting as a major update to the already-established Google Keyboard app on Android. (So don't get confused with the use of the two in this article)

Gboard features Google Search with which you can search the internet without having to switch apps, GIF suggestions, easy search for emoji, a predictive text typing system suggesting the next word depending on context, options for different themes, support for voice dictation, hand-drawn emoji, and multi language support. 
Gboard for Android is a great and must have app. It is easy to use and setup too.  Below, we will show you the steps you need to to take to install, setup and start using Google keyboard.


How to install and set-up Gboard (Google Keyboard)


1) Download Gboard From Google Play Store here: After downloading and installing, press open to open the app.

Congrats you now have Gboard installed in your phone. Below, we will proceed with how to set up Gboard.

How To Set Up Gboard For Android


Step 1 — Enable Settings
After opening the app, click on enable settings.

From the dialog that opens, choose Gboard. Press OK on the dialog that comes up.


Step 2 — Select Input Method
After enabling settings, the next thing to do is to select input method.

From the screen that comes up after step 1, click on 'Select input method' . Choose English (US) with Gboard below it. Don't worry, we will change the language later.

Step 3 — Set Permissions
On the next screen, tap on set Permissions.

 Choose 'allow' on the pop up.

Step 4 — All SetGboard Keyboad Settings for Android
Click on done.

And that's it. You've also succesfully set up Google Keyboard (Gboard).
You are good to go now. However, you can choose to customize the keyboard to your personal taste. You don't know how? Don't worry rear further. We'll show you how to customize and change the settings for Gboard.

How To Customize And Change Gboard Settings

There are a lot of things you can customize for Google keyboard. You can change the theme, you can add a number row, you can change the language (Gboard has uptown 100 languages installed), you can change the keyboard height, you can switch to one hand mode(cool right?). Infact you can change almost anything you wish to change with Gboard. Well, enough said already let's proceed.

1) Change Gboard language
Launch your Gboard app. When it opens, tap on languages.

From there you can change to your preferred language. If you're in Nigeria, just change yours to English (Nigeria).

2) Change PreferencesFrom Preferences, you can change Custom input styles, you can add a number row to the keyboard, change the keyboard height, change the keyboard to one hand mode. You can also choose whether to show emoji switch key or choose whether to show emojis in symbols keyboard and also change a lot more.

To change any of these, go back to the Gboard Keyboad Settings. Tap Preferences. From the next screen, you can change any of the things listed above you can scroll down to see more options.

3) Change Theme
To change the Google Keyboard theme, go back to Gboard Keyboad Settings and choose theme.

You can change the colour of the keyboard and you can also use your own picture as the theme. You can also choose whether to change key borders(lovely feature).

4) Customize Glide Typing
To do this just tap on Glide typing from the Gboard Keyboad Settings. I strongly suggest that you leave it as it is though for the best performance.

5) Change Dictionary Settings
You can also change the dictionary settings. Leave as it is for the best performance.
If you wish to change just select dictionary settings from the Gboard Keyboad Settings.


6) Change Advanced SettingsThere are some advanced settings that you can tweak too. You can check it out too. Just select Advanced Settings from the Gboard Keyboad Settings.
