LIST OF CHEAP ANDROID PHONES IN NIGERIA 2017 (UNDER #20,000)

Today, I'll be writing on reasons why you should avoid unpopular phone brands. Yes, you heard me right. Reasons why you should avoid unpopular phone brands. In as much as there are reasons why you may be tempted to check them out, there are more reasons why you should avoid them.

I'll derail a little bit to talk on the stand of those that believe you should check them out before dwelling more on the reasons why you should run from them.
There are a lot of phones in circulation today and it's possible that you've not heard of them all. Do you doubt that? You shouldn't as there are at least 100 phone brands listed on GSM Arena (Not local to Nigeria though) and the list is not even complete as some brands are still missing in that list. Notable omissions are Tecno, Infinix and others like Solo NG, Itel Mobile amongst others.

So if there are like 150 Smartphone Brands out there you might have heard of just about 10 or 15 of them or maybe 20 if you are a tech geek. So you see you just know of about 10% of Smartphone brands out there. Need I say more? I don't think so. This might however be because some of them are not present in the over saturated and competitive Nigerian Android smartphone market.
So, as I said earlier, before I go into reasons why you should avoid unpopular brands,  let me highlight some  reasons people buy “unpopular mobile phone” brands.

  • Unpopular brands are relatively cheaper, and most people are persuaded to go for it.
  • Most Attimes, they provide extra accessories and gadgets along with the phone.(To make up for their low quality?)
  • People believe it has lower chances of being fake as people rarely clone unpopular smartphone brands.(Yeah,  that's right. Nobody has time for them anyway)
  • They have Longer warranty.(Yeah that's often true)
  • They help prevent consumer exploitation. (That's laughable though)
Sothese are basically the reasons some people try out unpopular smartphone phone brands.

Now let me proceed and give you reasons you should avoid unknown mobile phones brands.

6 Reasons Why You Should Avoid Unpopular Phone Brands

  1. Unavailability and Scarcity of phone parts: This is the top problem with phones bought from these unpopular smartphone brands, and it is one reason you should avoid them like plague. Smartphones phones and in fact mobile phones in general can and do get damaged at times. But if you happen to be using one of these less known phone models, perhaps a Chines Smartphone Brand you probably bought online which has no noticeable presence in Nigeria, it might be a difficult and maybe impossible task to repair when it gets damaged. This is because the parts might not readily be available in Nigeria and even when they are, they might be scarce, and certainly it would cost you a lot to get the parts needed to repair the phone.
  2. They usually come with very bad software: Well, what did you expect when these phones are cheap and still want to offer the same specs as the popular but slightly more expensive brands.  You certainly would have to make do with a very poor User Interface. Some of these phones usually come with low PPI and bad softwares. Admittedly, some might and do have great UI and softwares but these are hard to come by.
  3. They might possibly just be testing: Some of these unpopular and less known  brands are new entrants into the market and so they might still be testing and might even sell test products. This companies might produce very poor phones that fail the test, and you along with many others might just be the unfortunate buyer of the poor failed mobile.
  4. Lack of custom ROM’s: Well for those that love using custom ROM’s on their Android smartphones,  this might simply  be impossible if you are using one of these less known mobile phone brands.
  5. No nearby office For Customer Service And Support: Most of the known mobile phone brands in Nigeria here do have strong physical presence here, and as such, it is easier for their customers to relate with them. But when you are using an unpopular and unknown mobile phone brand with no physical presence whatsoever in Nigeria, you may not have this luxury, meaning you are on your own. (OYO is your case. Lol)
  6. Some of them produce poor quality phones: Some unpopular phone brands produce really poor quality phones that can't and won't be used for long. These phones usually come  cheap. So people that are looking out  for cheap phones end up buying these scrappy phones only to start looking for another phone six months or less

Just read this posts below by random people I found online during my research who learnt this the hard way.
Note: These are not personal views or opinion of the author as I've not used these phones and have nothing against the brands that might be mentioned below.

"i bought kimfly m6 last month, the company is not popular...
i only used that phone for 1 week and it stopped powering on, i tought it was a minor case nd went to flash it, only to discover that the device has spoilt kpatakpata.
till now, no one knows what caused its damage."

"I bought Innjoo Halo, used it for just a year. Even though, it stopped loading Play Store long before the phone finally packed off.
Innjoo Halo was a better phone compared to my present THL T9 PRO. I bought it on Jumia, 35k! Just about three months, the battery swelled up. I had to throw it away to avoid explosion. If I need another battery, the only way to get it is aliexpress, roughly 10k including shipping charge. I had to work my already weakened Innjoo Halo battery into it plus my 15,000 mAh power bank to the rescue.
Overeating is another problem once I switch to 3G. Poor camera. Dull screen.
I'm done with unpopular brands. They don't even have second hand value unlike tecno, Gionee and infinix.

"parts are always unavailable. I will never buy an unknown brand again. I learnt my lesson when I used one useless Gicent product. After one month of usage, I sold it as scrap for #1000"

Well, it's a pity that these ones learnt this the hard way.

So, that's it “6 Reasons why you shoud avoid unpopular phone brands.”
